New Pumpkin Doll Tea Sets from Rhissanna

Even dolls like their dark night tea parties. Rhissanna has just unveiled her new Pumpkin dolly tea set for the new season and it's lush. I already have the Black Rose set but maybe the dolls need a new set for Halloween?

Rhissana also still has her well love Gothic Skully
tea set for sale on Etsy, perfect for those
dolls who prefer their tea parties on the dark side.

Halloween Wednesday - Pockets of Time

Marfi at Incipient Wings is once again holding her Halloween Wednesdays in the run up to the big event itself. Summer is my least favourite season for a variety of reasons so I'll take any reason to jump in to Autumn and join in the fun of Halloween and Marfi's Halloween Humpdays are the perfect way to start the season off.

At this time of year I always go a slight shade of green with envy when American bloggers are posting photos of all the lush Autumn and Halloween goodies they are finding in their shops. It's like hunting for a needle in a haystack to find anything decent in Britain for the seasonal celebrations. Thank heavens that I'm of a crafty mind to make things for myself and the internet where I can get my fix of Autumn goodies on offer. Today I've indulged in my love of time and pocket watches and found this delightful selection on Esty suitable for the any witch or lover of the season.

Let a season of Witchy Merriment commence

Somethings coming.
Somethings in the air.
Can you sense it?
Can you feel it?
The crisp crackling of leaves.
The slight wisp of wood smoke.
Nature changing her garments.
Colours of Richness now adoring her.
Autumn is blowing in.
Halloween upon her heels.
This blog is beginning to awake once more
To share in the delights of midnight fun.
Let a season of Witchy Merriment commence.

I just love the Autumn season and the merriment of Halloween. One of my favourite things is the many blog parties that are held this time of year where you get to meet like minded folk who share the feelings for the season. It's lovely seeing how others decorated and celebrate, the many crafts and ideas people share. One of the first once again is going to be hosted by Marfi at Incipient Wings who starts the Halloween Humpdays at the end of this month, commencing Wednesday 27th of August and every Wednesday there after till Halloween.

The Wicked Faerie Queen Halloween Home Tour

The Wicked Faerie Queen has issued forth an invite for us all to show our homes over this Halloween season. Afraid apart from getting home two huge pumpkins and putting up a tree my decorations are not yet up. I've spent today fastening anything that moves in the garden before the approaching storm the weathermen keep warning us about hits. Still if the weather is bad the silver cloud will be I'll get to stay inside this weekend and finish decorating so some photos should follow. Till then I've been searching the net for some alternative colour ideas for Halloween in case anyone fancies a change from the traditional black and orange. I swear one year I'll be organized in time and colour co ordinated. I have a hankering for a midnight blue colour scheme. I so love the first picture, it's got my favourite blue and white china and also my favourite flowers, orange chrysanthemums which bring back so many happy memories.  This year though it will be my normal thrown together look, still I can dream..............

All Hallows Grim 2013 No. 1 - Embracing the darkness.

Magaly of Pagan Culture is having another one of her scrumptious blog parties. This time the theme is darkness and the goodness that can be found with in it. It's a delicious theme for there is indeed as much goodness in the dark as there is in the day or light.

Her brief is;

The aim of All Hallow’s Grim 2013… So Good, So Dark is to use our artistic power, intellect and heart to create posts that show the delicious goodness that blooms in the dark.

Nyctophobia, fear of the night or Achluophobia fear of the dark seems to be an inbuilt gene in many of the human race, from our earliest beginnings man has been fearful of what lurks in the dark shadows. Children have for generations been afraid of the monster hiding under the bed or in the cupboard, ready to leap out as soon as the light was turned off at night. There is also the darkness of the spirit when depression strikes, those of us who have been there know how terrifying that place can be at first. Gradually though that fear can be beat and the darkness can be seen for what it is, not somewhere terrible, but somewhere your mind goes to rest and shelter when the world is tiring it out. That initial fear of darkness can also slowly turn to fascination for many and the darkness itself has become the muse of artists in many fields, from writing, film making to music etc. Some of the greatest artistic creations have been born in darkness. Like moths drawn to a flame the dark has the power to both scare and attract at the same time. Too be seen as both a danger and as a protective shield.

There seem to be two groups of people in life, the morning larks who live for the day and the night owls who seem to come alive as the sun goes down. I'm most definitely a night owl, something that seems to have been undoubtedly inherited from my mum and her side of the family. My fathers side are all morning larks, solid sensible people and yes it must be said, at times boring but they do it with the best of intentions. My mum on the other hand had a dry but wicked sense of humor, I was brought up with her love of midnight feasts, a joy of the night and her somewhat rebelious attitude to life.

The night can bring both silent solitude for quite contemplation or joyous fun and laughter. The dangers that may lurk in the night are no more than those that are lurking in the brightness of daylight. Our ancient ancestors started many of the feasts and festivals at the going down of the sun when a new day to their minds began. Night and day are part of the same cycle, one could not exist without the other and neither half is evil. Let us embraced the dark as much as the light for there are shades of both in all of us, by accepting that we find our own balance.

Halloween Humpday - Number Two

The Witches Spell

Act IV, Scene 1 from Macbeth (1606) by William Shakespeare

A dark Cave. In the middle, a Caldron boiling. Thunder.
Enter the three Witches.

1 WITCH. Thrice the brinded cat hath mew’d.
2 WITCH. Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin’d.
3 WITCH. Harpier cries:—’tis time! ’tis time!
1 WITCH. Round about the caldron go;
In the poison’d entrails throw.—
Toad, that under cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty-one;
Swelter’d venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i’ the charmed pot!
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH. Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder’s fork, and blind-worm’s sting,
Lizard’s leg, and owlet’s wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
3 WITCH. Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
Witches’ mummy; maw and gulf
Of the ravin’d salt-sea shark;
Root of hemlock digg’d i the dark;
Liver of blaspheming Jew;
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Sliver’d in the moon’s eclipse;
Nose of Turk, and Tartar’s lips;
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver’d by a drab,—
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger’s chaudron,
For the ingrediants of our caldron.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH. Cool it with a baboon’s blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

or maybe you might prefer Terry Pratchett's parody....

"The wind howled. Lightning stabbed at the earth erratically, like and inefficient assassin. Thunder rolled back and forth across the dark, rain lashed hills. The night was as black as the inside of a cat. It was the kind of night, you could believe, on which Gods moved men as though they were pawns on the chessboard of fate. In the middle of this elemental storm a fire gleamed among the dripping furze bushes like madness in a weasel's eye. It illuminated three hunched figures. As the cauldron bubbled and archaic voice shrieked: "When shall we three meet again?!!"
There was a pause.
Finally another voice said, in a far more ordinary tones:
"Well I can do next Tuesday""

Halloween Humpday - Number One

While having a wander through some of my favourite blogs I came across this delightful gathering of Halloween Lovers. Marfi of Incipient Wings is holding a Halloween themed link party every Wednesday. Being a confirmed Halloween addict I'd love to take part on the Wednesdays when I can. So here is my first entry for Haunted Humpday, a bit late in the day but I'll try to sort something out earlier next week.

As it's a late in the day for my first entry I though I just share some of the photos I've taken of a few of my little witch collection. These characters all live in my magical dolls house hamlet called Midnight where life is lived between the hours of dusk and dawn. Afraid to say I can't remember where I got all the dolls from and their makers as I've built my collection up over a number of years and this is just a couple of them..

 Also here is a few of the hat's I've collected over time, nearly all these ones come from Kat 'The Hat Lady' who makes fantastic miniature witches hats as you can see.

 Thanks for visiting.
